Bringing Yukon First Nation priorities to federal budget discussions

YFNCC participated in a federal pre-budget roundtable hosted by MP Brendan Hanley on September 2, bringing the priorities of Yukon First Nation businesses and economic development organizations into the discussion.

Participation needs to begin earlier

The Chamber highlighted the importance of economic capacity and meaningful participation early in project planning. Access to decision-makers and clearer procurement pathways can help businesses prepare before major decisions and contracts are already in place.

Fragmented funding can make it harder to build that capacity. YFNCC raised the need for approaches that support businesses and development corporations as they navigate programs, develop partnerships, and prepare for larger opportunities.

Connecting infrastructure with ownership

Housing, energy, and infrastructure were central priorities. The Chamber’s message connected procurement participation with the longer-term potential for partnership and ownership, alongside the work of building local business capacity.

The roundtable was an opportunity to put these priorities before federal representatives. YFNCC will continue advocating for stronger pathways for Yukon First Nation economic participation.
